Charity Runners
stewarded to make their
miles mean more
Charity running has equally surged as demand
on general entry places fuels the supply chain for
charity entries. On top of this, a new generation
of runners, across the younger Millennials (28 –
43) and Gen Z (16-27) is emerging, with Gen Z in
particular the age group most likely to run more
events this year (2025) and up their overall running
frequency. This generation has a strong sense
of purpose and ethicalness which makes them a
perfect target audience for charity running.
In 2024, all the Abbott World Majors Marathons
saw a surge in fundraising impact from their events,
despite the cost-of-living crisis impacting most
major peer-to-peer fundraising markets with the
New York Marathon seeing 8% YoY growth and
over $66M raised. The BMW BERLIN-MARATHON,
which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024, saw

over a 50% YoY increase in fundraising through
its international charity programme, exclusively
managed by realbuzz, with more than 2,000
international runners raising on average more
than £2,000 per person and offering 4:1 returns
for participating charities.
Realbuzz has been the leader in the charity running
sector for over 20 years and we are proud to be
at the forefront of this boom, across the globe,
with a rapidly expanding network of event and
charity partners. Last year, we welcomed more than
ten new events, including the prestigious Tokyo
Marathon, in exclusive partnership with the Tokyo
Marathon Foundation, which will see us open up
this World Major’s event to international charities for
the first time in its history with an anticipated YR1
fundraising impact of over £2.5M.
